…Well, that’s not entirely fair. I didn’t think “If Not Now When?” was bad. I’m such an admitted Incubus fanboy (and my man-crush on lead singer Brandon Boyd) is so strong I can’t really call any of their albums outright terrible. But the biggest weakness of “If Not Now When?” is that it was unexciting. There’s moving away from the early nu-metal days (like on “S.C.I.E.N.C.E.” and “Make Yourself”), and then there’s just playing elevator music. Slower songs, to me, need to be tempered with more lively exciting ones. Every “Earth To Bella” needs an “Anna Molly” to balance it.
…Which is why I’m excited the new single “Absolution Calling” IS so lively and exciting. I’m super excited for the new release.
