I first heard of The Ruts when I heard Henry Rollins talk about them in one of his spoken word shows back when I was in college in Minneapolis, at 1st & 7th. It was ironic I had heard about them when I did, because their lead singer Malcolm Owens was dead 27 years from a heroin overdose, and their lead guitar Paul Fox had passed away from crippling lung cancer earlier that year. Henry spoke reverently about his lifelong fandom of the band, and being asked to perform at their last gig together when Paul was alive, filling in Malcolm’s vacant spot as lead singer.
Their signature single “In A Rut” has been an inspiration for me ever since, and I decided to make it the title of Year Three’s comics. I like how things are looking in full page and I’m getting more used to it. And I’m making great strides now that I’m in Portland. But there’s always more you can do.
But nevermind that! Here’s are The Ruts for ya!
